Part II: Zschimmer & Schwarz
With 29 companies in 15 countries on 5 continents, the Zschimmer & Schwarz Group, founded in Chemnitz in 1894, is a leading manufacturer of speciality chemical products. More than 1,300 employees (of which 500 work at the current headquarters in Lahnstein) are developing individual solutions, ‘made by Zschimmer & Schwarz’, for well-known customers from numerous countries and the most varied sectors.
The ceramic, textile, synthetic fibre and leather industries, as well as manufacturers of cosmetics and cleaning products and other special applications all over the world, rely on the company’s developments. Internationally uniform high quality and service standards as well as proximity to the customers guarantee that the chemical auxiliaries and additives by Zschimmer & Schwarz decisively influence the progress of the processing industry. With scientific curiosity and ingenuity the company constantly works to improve everyday life for all people with the help of innovative products.
Zschimmer & Schwarz’s mission statement of sustainability is, of course, one of the key elements of this commitment. Consequently, the certification of the quality management system according to DIN EN ISO 9001 is just a matter of course. As a traditional and responsible family business, Zschimmer & Schwarz is committed to plan ahead for future generations. As a member of ‘Responsible Care’, the company therefore strives for a continuous improvement in the areas of environment, safety and health, independent of legal requirements, and with the RSPO certification it is voluntarily committed to the use of sustainably sourced palm oil.
The company is also very conscientious about eco-friendly and health-conscious production, especially when it comes to textile auxiliary agents, because the industry’s social responsibility is literally close to the skin. As a system partner of bluesign®, Zschimmer & Schwarz stands for resource-conserving and environmentally-conscious production. Many of the chemical auxiliaries comply with GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) and the OEKO-TEX standard 100, which means they are certified to be sustainable and pollutant-tested. By strictly adhering to the ZDHC MRSL list (Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals Manufacturing Restricted Substances List), potentially harmful chemicals are eliminated from the supply chain.
The company’s international success in the textile auxiliary agents sector proves that environmental awareness and chemical progress are by no means mutually exclusive; they are in fact even mutually supportive. With decades of tradition and state-of-the-art know-how, customised solutions are offered to the clients. Whether it regards polyamide aftertreatment, protection against yellowing, technical textiles or digital printing, whether for the production of clothing, outdoor, vehicle or home textiles, Zschimmer & Schwarz anticipates trends, markets and customer requirements with practice-oriented speciality products, proactive service, eight locations and numerous partners in the most important textile centres.
For the commitment to customer-oriented development work and consulting, Zschimmer & Schwarz was awarded the ‘FUTURE MATERIALS AWARD 2015’ in the ‘Ground-breaking Partnership Development’ category. With this award, the jury recognised the fact that Zschimmer & Schwarz also offers ground-breaking service for the revolutionary DIAMONTEX products in digital text printing.
The combination of a traditional family business and an innovative chemical company at Zschimmer & Schwarz is epitomised by the location in Mohsdorf. This is where future and history come together: By taking over the factory in 1993, Zschimmer & Schwarz returned to its Saxon roots almost 100 years after its founding in Chemnitz and after over 40 years of German division. Today, 151 employees work on the development, production and distribution of textile auxiliary agents and phosphonates in these modern facilities.
As a special recognition of the achievements in Mohsdorf, the location was selected from 839 companies and institutions for the jury short-list for the ‘Grand Prix of the Mid-sized Sector’ prize. Since companies can only be nominated by third parties, the nomination itself is already a special recognition.
With innovative developments, economic success, entrepreneurial sense of responsibility and endorsement by customers and partners, the name Zschimmer & Schwarz stands for perfectly tailored chemical speciality solutions in Germany, Europe and worldwide – in other words ‘Chemistry tailor-made.’
